Red Dress is a project I did during the fall semester of my junior year. I had to make a dress that was allowed to be only red in honor of The American Red Heart Association, Go Red for women's heart disease research. I was inspired by the contrast of man made armors and armors found in nature, such as bark, and scales. I was also inspired by female warriors from medieval history, which helped me choose my muse, Joan of Arc. I wanted to play with the elements of hard and soft. So for the bodice i used strips of real red leather and stiched and wove them on a self lined piece of 4-ply silk crepe. The rest of the dress is silk also, which allowed the dress to hug the body in a nice way.
